Photo Manipulations

Manips are probably my favourite thing to work on, and what I recieve praise on most. I've made them for friends, school and just for fun. I used stock images from Stock Xchange and Deviant Art. Most of my manips have up to 15 or more images blended together seamlessly to create a whole new landscape, place, person or thing.

Page 941: 'Then you think that the Darkness is coming?' said Éowyn. 'Darkness Unescapable?' And suddenly she drew close to him. 'No,' said Faramir, looking into her face. 'It was but a picture in the mind. I do not know what is happening. The reason of my waking mind tells me that great evil has befallen and we stand at the end of days. But my heart says nay; and all my limbs are light, and a hope and joy are come to me that no reason can deny. Éowyn, Éowyn, White Lady od Rohan, in this hour I do not believe that any darkness will endure!'

Title: A Sign of Hope
Made: 2004
Number of Photo's used: 5 to 7.
Description: After seeing Peter Jackson's version of 'The Lord of the Rings', it was obvious which beloved scenes were left out from the book. I was determined to illustrate some of those scenes in my own way. This scene is from 'The Return of the King', 'The Steward of the King', page 950: 'Then Aragorn turned, and there was a stony slope behind him running down from the skirts of the snow; and as he looked he was aware that alone there in the waste a growing thing stood. And he climbed to it, and saw that out of the very edge of the snow there sprang a sapling tree no more than three foot high. Already it had put forth young leaves long and shapely, dark above and silver beneath, and upon its slender crown it bore one small cluster of flowers whose white petals shone like the sunlit snow.'

Title: The Birth of Telperion and Laurelin
Made: 2004
Number of Photo's used: 8 to 10.
Description: Based upon a chapter from Tolkien's 'The Silmarillion', and the beginning of Middle Earth. This relates to 'A Sign of Hope', in that the Telperion (the silver tree), is the ancestor of the one Aragorn finds. Telperion stands for the moon and Laurelin, the sun.

Number of Photo's used: 7 to 9.
Description: Yet another manip based on 'The Fellowship of the Ring', and the character who's appearance was never made in the films, but replaced with Liv Tyler in the role of Arwen Evenstar. Title: Daughter of Nature
Made: 2004
Number of Photo's used: 4 to 5.
Description: This manip depicts a nature spirit hiding in the trees. My inspiration for this one stemmed from Celtic lore and myths of guardians of forests, such as faeries and nymphs.

Title: All Souls Pass
Made: 2003
Number of Photo's used: 5 to 7.
Description: The first manipulation I made that revolved around Tolkien's works. Made just after 'The Return of the King' debuted in movie theaters around the world, the ending from not only the movie, but the book its self, left an impact on me. Here I created the scene of the elves sailing away, leaving Middle Earth forever in the hands of men, to go to the land of Valinor; aka 'The Dying Lands'.
